Finnish Rautakirja eyes stake in Polish Ruch

Finland's largest press distributor is interested in buying the controlling stake in its Polish peer Ruch, the daily Rzeczpospolita has reported Tuesday.

Rautakirja, a unit of Sanoma WSOY is eyeing a 50 percent stake plus one share in Ruch that the Polish state treasury plans to sell. Rzeczpospolita did not name any sources.

In June the Polish state treasury was in talks with a group of investors, including local and foreign financial investors, as well as publicly traded companies, according to a Finanz Nachrichten article.

“We do not comment on our investment plans,” Rautakirja management board member Jukka Nikkinen is quoted by Rzeczpospolita as saying. “I can only say that our company is interested in growing our business in central and eastern Europe, including Poland.”

Ruch sells nearly half of all newspapers in Poland. The list of potential bidders includes Polish discount wholesaler Eurocash and Polish investor Zbigniew Jakubas, the newspaper article stated.
