smh.com.au gets a makeover

The Sydney Morning Herald's Web site, smh.com.au, has a new look.

In hopes of attracting more readers it has reorganised the page, making it more user-friendly and with added news, videos and features. The page also now has more white space and room around the articles and images.

“While we've made these changes to improve the look and feel of our site, much will still be familiar. We have kept key features of the previous design that has taken us, along with our sister sites at theage.com.au and brisbanetimes.com.au, to the leading position as the most popular news sites in Australia, with a huge global audience,” wrote Mike van Niekerk, the newspaper's online editor in a letter to readers.

Along with changes to site navigation and Life & Style and Entertainment areas, news and entertainment videos have been added to a showcase on the top right. Weather and top opinion writers and bloggers have also been placed on top of either side of the smh.com.au logo.
