Mixing Google Maps with crime data, The Los Angeles Times has launched the Homicide Map on its Web site, which plots all of the cases listed in the newspaper's Homicide Report column.
The map pinpoints on a map and lists by category all of crime reporter Jill Leovy's daily homicide reports, showing 515 homicides in Los Angeles County so far this year.
To the left of the map are categories, breaking down homicides by day of the week, cause of death, gender, race/ethnicity and age. Under the map a list of those murdered, by date, followed by the name, age, race, gender and cause of death.
To view Leovy's report on the homicide, one can click on the pinpoint showing where homicides took place on the map, or on the person's name on the list under the map.
