Schibsted acquires WebTraffic, online profits up 43%

Schibsted, the biggest media group in Norway, has bought the online marketing and traffic firm WebTraffic. The financial terms were not disclosed.

WebTraffic, based in Sweden, works with webmasters by providing them with guaranteed traffic to their websites.

The company also announced its Q2 financial results. Earnings before interest, tax and amortisation (EBITA) rose to 413 million Norwegian crowns ($69.82 million) from $295 million a year ago, easily outperforming an average forecast of 393 million from a Reuters poll of 10 analysts.

Schibsted is experiencing the transition from a traditional print company into a media house with a strong Internet component including classified online advertising.

A company source pointed out it will “continue to close unprofitable print titles, which will increase the share of the operating profit produced by online activities.”
