The Paxton Media Group has bought The LaPorte County Herald-Argus daily newspaper in LaPorte County, Ind.
This sale from the Small Newspaper Group announced Thursday is expected to be effective October 1. The deal amount has not yet been disclosed.
Including the newly-acquired Herald-Argus, the Kentucky-based Paxton Media will publish 32 daily newspapers, including The News-Dispatch of Michigan City, 10 miles from LaPorte in northwestern Indiana.
It is the third Indian newspaper purchase Paxton Media has made in five months and will give the company 11 papers in the state. The company purchased The Herald-Press of Huntington in April and the Chronicle-Tribune of Marion in July.
Paxton Media also has presence in other states. It owns seven daily newspapers in North Carolina, four in Arkansas, three each in Georgia and Kentucky, and one each in Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi and Tennessee.
The company has an NBC-affiliated television station in Paducah, Ky., among its holdings.
David Paxton, president and chief executive of Paxton Media, told WRAL News that the company will combine "the strengths of the Herald-Argus with other Paxton newspapers in the area" in order to improve service to readers and advertisers.
