New York Times launches Montenegro edition

The New York Times will publish its International Weekly edition in Montenegro, appearing in the Podgorica-based newspaper Vijesti, the company announced Thursday.

Vijesti is the latest to publish the weekly edition, joining 20 other countries and the United States, and will appear in the newspaper each Monday.

The New York Times International Weekly looks the same in each paper it is published in, retaining New York Times style layout and typography. Weekly editions are created in New York by Times News Service journalists, consulting with editors from partner newspapers, The New York Times Company stated.

Cristian Edwards, president of the Times' News Services Division, called Vijesti one of the “leading newspapers” in the Balkans region.

“Vijesti's comprehensive regional coverage coupled with The New York Times International Weekly will give readers in Montenegro a more in-depth perspective on world news,” Edwards said in a statement. Zeljko Ivanovic, Vijesti's managing director for publishing and editorial issues, called the partnership “a dream.”

“Although Vijesti has long been considered among the most serious and respected daily papers in the Balkans, this agreement with The New York Times will have an additional impact on our public image and influence,” Ivanovic said in a statement.
