Finnish microblogging service Jaiku has been bought up by Google, according to an announcement on the company's Web site. The amount of the deal is undisclosed.

Jaiku allows users to share short messages and presence alerts with each other, using a computer or a mobile device, just like its competitor, Twitter. Not many details about the deal have been revealed. A FAQ on the company Web site only said employees will be joining Google and that Google is interested in doing more with activity streams and mobile presence.

The acquisition comes only a few months after Twitter raised its initial funding. However, because of not knowing neither the investment nor the acquisition price, it's difficult to do a valuation comparison between the two. But obviously, Google's deal is more than simply an investment, as it likely plans to integrate Jaiku into a range of social and mobile applications, paidContent reported.
