Google turning YouTube clips into ad cash

Google turning YouTube clips into ad cash

Google has began allowing its advertisers to embed clips from YouTube into their promotional messages, which shows the company's strategy on how it will make money from video streaming.

The company announced Tuesday that its AdSense platform would support video content, which means, for example, a beverages company could show a clip of somebody enjoying a drink.

Google added it was working with nearly a hundred YouTube participants to provide ad content, but it stressed that clips would not play until users clicked on them.

Since the $1.65 billion buyout for YouTube last year, Google has been facing pressure to show that it can bring in profits from the video sharing site.

Google's announcement followed within 24 hours after the company's shares passed a milestone by reaching $600.

Analysts predict another growth spurt, partly on rumours that Google could introduce the "Gphone" next year to extend its ad expertise into the mobile Internet market, the Guardian reported.

Douglas Anmuth, a Lehman Brothers analyst, set a target share price at $714.

"Google phone could capture a similar share of handsets shipped as Apple's iPhone over a similar time period," he said.

Some said that Google may release software to run mobile phones within the next month, with proprietary handsets to follow in February.
