If you plan to apply for this year's Knight News Challenge grants or the MacArthur Foundation's Digital Media and Learning competition, time is running out. The deadline for both of the programmes is Monday, October 15.

Those applying for the Knight News Challenge can submit a public application, which can be viewed by all, and commented on by News Challenge site users. Applicants for the Digital Media and Learning competition can also upload applications to the site, and revisit the application as many times as they want until the application deadline. Applicants need to be sure to click the “Finish” button, though, because incomplete applications will not be reviewed, the competition's site warns.

The Knight program is looking for ideas on how to use digital experiments to transform community news. The MacArthur program is focused less on news and journalism, and more on using digital media for education.
