China's largest mobile telecom operator has joined Google Inc.'s alliance of wireless and technology companies to co-develop the first open and comprehensive mobile platform, called Android, Thomson Financial reported Tuesday.
China Mobile is the latest of more than 30 companies, including Google, T-Mobile, Motorola and Qualcomm, to join the alliance.
China Mobile believes an open, more advanced mobile handset platform will encourage faster adoption of smart phones in China, said Huang Xiaoqing, general manager of the China Mobile Research Institute, according to Thomson.
