Trinity Mirror has announced plans for a single, multimedia newsroom in Wales for its regional papers, the latest attempt a UK newspaper group has made to integrate its resources.
All the company's Cardiff-based titles, including the Western Mail, South Wales Echo and Wales on Sunday, will be integrated into one editorial operation, which serves both print and electronic outlets.
The united newsroom will be headed by Alan Edmunds, the editorial director of Trinity Mirror's Media Wales division.
Under the new structure, each title will still have an editor in charge of all electronic and print channels for the editor's title brand. And the Deputy editors, which will be re-styled as executive editors, will oversee the hour-by-hour newsroom operation across all media.
"It is our belief that the future success of our business lies in the need to transform from a predominantly print-based culture to a truly multimedia environment," Edmunds said, according to MediaGuardian. "This is a pioneering move for the regional industry and will put us at the forefront of multimedia newsrooms across the UK."
