The U.S. government is changing up media ownership rules for the second time in four years, a move that could end up allow big companies to get bigger, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.
The Federal Communications Commission's Democratic members have accused Republican Kevin Martin, the chairman, of rushing the review process and calling public hearings without enough notice time.
Martin wants a vote by the end of the year, but opponents have protested the re-writing, complaining the commission is not doing enough to promote ownership of smaller companies. The Senate's Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee is also getting involved, and is set to hear testimonies Thursday.
The House plans to hold a hearing on the matter Dec. 6, while a final public hearing is scheduled for Friday in Seattle, according to the AP.
