Singapore's The New Paper switches to morning

Singapore's The New Paper switches to morning

The New Paper (TNP), a Singapore daily, is shifting its publication time, but will offer a lunchtime sports edition twice a week.

A choice of either a breakfast edition or a lunchtime edition will be available on Mondays and Thursdays.

Once known as an afternoon paper, TNP has been an outlet for mixed morning and evening news for several years. It will be switched Monday to a full-fledged breakfast paper, seven days a week.

“We're customising the paper twice a week to cater to different tastes,” said Ivan Fernandez, editor of TNP, according to Asia Media.

The morning edition will cover TNP-style news and features, in-depth sports analysis, as well as tips and graphics, while the lunchtime sports edition will include the latest results of overnight matches on the same day.

“Our lunchtime editions are now more targeted,” Fernandez said. “We zero in on the big matches on Mondays and Thursdays, in particular English Premier League and Champions League clashes.

“Of course, during big soccer tournaments such as Euro 2008 and the World Cup in 2010, we'll have regular lunchtime editions during these periods. When there's other big breaking news, like a major disaster, TNP will keep updated in a special afternoon edition,” Fernandez told Asia Media.
