Kuwait's 10th Arabic daily launched

The first issue of Awan, a new newspaper in Kuwait, was launched Sunday with Mohammad Al-Rumihi appointed as editor-in-chief.

Awan is the fifth local paper to be issued since the approval of the Publications Law earlier this year, and Kuwait's 10th daily.

Al-Rumihi said in the editorial of the first issue that the media and the press have to assume "social responsibility and professionally take the side of the truth.” He added that Awan opened its doors for Kuwaiti young generations to receive training for the sake of creating "a professional generation of journalists.”

According to the Kuwait Times, the political independent daily covers local politics, local and regional economy, local and international arts and culture. A whole page is allocated for non-Kuwaitis in the country under “Awan Communities. Regarding sports, Awan focuses on local, regional and international sports.”
