India Today's new digital division, which will assimilate the group's print and television content for online and mobile platforms, will launch in early 2008, agencyfaqs! reported Monday.
India Today Group Digital will incorporate all of the media group's individual sites, such as India Today, Prevention, Money Today, Men's Health and Business Today.
Sanjoy Narayan, COO of India Today Group Digital, told agencyfaqs! that content from all the cites accessible via computers and mobile phones, and be customised for handheld devices like Blackberrys and PDAs.
“There is a decline in the reading habit per se, but people are still seeking information and the younger people prefer digital media. This is an attempt to expand our audience,” Narayan told agencyfaqs!. “Online ad revenues are growing and we want a share in it.”
Current sites have also been revamped, and now include comments, Q&A, financial toos and health tools. Users can also ask questions of India Today's editor, Prabhu Chawla, in the column Ask Prabhu.
User generated content is also in the works, with plans to launch citizen blogs on the umbrella site. However, content from citizens will be used carefully, Narayan said.
“(User generated content) requires some amount of moderation and we have to ensure that the content generated by users on our sites conforms to the credibility of our media brands as well as the values that our group represents. Besides, we have so much of our own content to offer the reader,” says Narayan.
