Chicago Tribune raises single-copy price to 75 cents

The single-copy price of the weekday Chicago Tribune will increase to 75 cents from 50 cents, beginning New Year's Eve.

The Tribune said the price increase, the first in more than 15 years, is necessary due to "cost escalations" over the long period.

The company said it has no plans to change the newsstand price of the Sunday paper, which is now $1.79.

Home delivery subscription rates will be up slightly next year, the Tribune added. It said that the home delivery price will be “an even greater discount from newsstand prices than is the case today,” Editor & Publisher reported.

The Tribune's competitor, the Chicago Sun-Times, is currently priced at 50 cents, and has stated it had no plans to increase its newsstand price.
