Conrad Black's right-hand man in the former Hollinger newspaper empire and former Chicago Sun-Times publisher was sentenced Tuesday to 29 months in prison for his role aiding Black in stealing millions of dollars from Hollinger shareholders
David Radler had pleased guilty to fraud and testified against Black in return for a lighter sentence.
“I'm sorry for what I've done,” he said, according to The Australian. Radler was also fined US $250,000, and has already paid millions in restitution.
Black was sentenced last week to six-and-a-half years in prison for funnelling US $6 million from shareholders.
US District Judge Amy St Eve told Radler in her Chicago courtroom Tuesday that he and Black were “equally culpable,” but acknowledged his cooperation in court. “You certainly have tried to right your wrongs.”
Radler must begin serving his sentence February 25, and St Eve said she would recommend a Pennsylvania prison.
