FT raises cover price

FT raises cover price

For the second time in just seven months, the Financial Times has increased its cover price, this time by 20 pence, to £1.50.

Beginning Monday, the FT costs £1.50, double the price of the Times, and 70 pence more expensive than the Independent, the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian.

The FT last raised its price in June 2007, when increased from £1 to £1.30. That was its first increase in five years, MediaGuardian reported Monday.

The FT's weekend edition has also increased by 20 pence, and will now cost £2, the same price as the most expensive paper in the United Kingdom, the Sunday Times.

So far, June's price increase has not had a negative effect on newspaper sales. In recent months, the FT was the only daily quality paper to record several circulation increases. November sales in the United Kingdom and Ireland reached 142,108 copies, up from 141,794 in October.
