Sales of British dailies hold steady in Ireland

Even as sales dropped at home, British daily tabloid sales remained steady or climbed in Ireland in December, the Sunday Business Post reported Sunday,

According to Audit Bureau of Circulations numbers, the Sun sold 104,629 copies in the six months to December, staying the same as in 2006. Overall, however, News International's flagship tabloid dipped below three million in December, an overall low.

The Daily Star saw December sales reach 104,792 in Ireland, more than the 98,902 it sold in December 2006, the Sunday Business Post reported. Additionally, its sales in Ireland and Northern Ireland combined were up six percent, to 112,042.

The Daily Mirror saw sales rise in Ireland over the last six months in 2007, from 71,950 in 2006 to 74,768 in 2007, according to the Post.

And although sales slipped from 60,188 to 58,861 for the Irish Daily Mail in December, its six-month average held steady at 59,913.

Although sales figures for British-owned papers have been released, Irish newspaper sales for the second half of 2007 are due out later this month.
