Foreign audience outnumbers home audience for top U.K. titles

Online visitors outside the United Kingdom outnumber the domestic audience for The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail and the BBC, according to comScore data released Tuesday.

The Daily Mail received the most international visitors, with 69 percent of its 7.6 million users coming from outside the United Kingdom.

Fifty-nine percent of the BBC's audience is outside the United Kingdom, followed by 57 percent for the Telegraph and 56 percent for the Guardian Media Group, according to comScore.

“In recent years, U.K. media companies have been able to acquire significant international audiences by leveraging their brands online,” said Bob Ivins, EVP of European Markets for comScore, in a press release. “The Internet is a truly global medium, allowing consumers to easily access content from anywhere in the world. It is critical that publishers and advertisers understand their global franchise – not just their U.K. audiences.”
