Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Washingtonpost.com highest local penetration

Washingtonpost.com and the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle have the highest adult penetration in their local markets in the United States among newspaper Web sites and printed newspapers, according to the latest Scarborough Research figures.

The Scarborough Newspaper Penetration Report covers data collected from August 2006 to September 2007.

Scarborough ranked the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle as the number one in local market (DMA) adult penetration for its print audience. According to the report, 79 percent of adults living in Rochester, New York, had read the printed version in the previous week. With the print and Web combined, the paper reaches 81 percent of the local market weekly.

Washingtonpost.com has the highest local penetration of all newspaper Web sites in the United States. Of all the adults living in Washington, D.C., 22 percent of them had visited the Web site in the previous week.
