Swiss free evening daily heute, published by Ringier, will be pulled off the market in June, and replaced by the free evening edition of the publisher's flagship tabloid Blick, Newspaper Innovation reported Tuesday.
Ringier is aiming to put Blick on multiple platforms, including print, online, TV and radio. The timing of switching heute for Blick is due to the Euro2008 football championship, set to take place in Switzerland and Austria in June.
Blick's morning edition will relaunch with a new design Wednesday. It will be a magazine and newspaper rolled into one, and also feature a separate sports connection, which Newspaper Innovation predicts will be dedicated to Euro2008.
The heute staff will work on the new paper. Currently, heute's circulation is 235,000, and different editions are published for Zurich, Basle and Bern. More than half the newspaper's readership is under age 35, according to Newspaper Innovation.
