Australian ad laws to require price details

New advertising laws in Australia require advertisements to disclose the full cost of products and services, The Australian has reported Friday.

The changes will be introduced into parliament, and state that advertisements that do not reveal the full price when they highlight “component” prices will be banned.

Under component pricing, companies advertise only part of the cost of a good or service.

Assistant Treasurer Chris Bowen said Thursday that consumer affairs have been neglected, and promised to look out for consumers in national competition laws, The Australian reported.
