Lisa Marie Presley sues Daily Mail

Lisa Marie Presley has sued the Daily Mail for an article that stated she was “piling on the pounds,” forcing her to announce she is pregnant, Reuters UK reported Monday.

The Mail, published by Associated Newspapers, reported last week Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, was gaining weight.

Simon Smith, Presley's lawyer, said Presley was “deeply upset and offended” by the article.

“Once they got a glimpse of my expanding physique a few days ago, they have been like a pack of coyotes circling their prey whilst eerily howling with delight,” Presley, 40, wrote on her blog at MySpace.com, according to Reuters. “Starting with a London publication and then New York and Chicago all writing false defamatory degrading stories about all of the dark possible reasons I could be putting on weight.”

Jo Paton, another of Presley's attorneys, told the Associated Press she will seek an apology and damages.

The Daily Mail said the first time they heard of Presley's complaint was when they were served with court documents. The newspaper said in a statement they are “investigating the matter,” according to the AP.
