Glasgow's evening newspaper, the Evening Times, is launching 12 more community-based Web sites Wednesday, in addition to the 12 it launched earlier this month, as part of its goal of launching 80 such sites by the end of the year, AllmediaScotland reported.
“Plans for the second dozen were accelerated after feedback from readers wanting to know when their area was going to be included,” the paper stated.
The latest dozen sites to be launched will serve Anniesland, Baillieston, Bridgeton, Calton, Castlemilk, Drumchapel, Govan, Knightswood, Merchant City, Parkhead, Pollok and Yoker. On March 3 the Evening Times launched sites for Cardonald, Dennistoun, Easterhouse, Gorbals, Hillshead, Maryhill, Partick, Robroyston, Shawlands, Springburn, Tollcross and Whiteinch, according to AllmediaScotland.
The paper is still compiling data, but “obviously we would not have accelerated the introduction of the second phase if we hadn't been greatly encouraged by the interest we've had so far,” Assistant Editor Graeme Smith told AllmediaScotland. “The response to the first 12 sites has been phenomenal. Traffic has exceeded all our expectations and we've brought forward our roll-out of the next batch, in response.”
The paper is monitoring users' feedback, and planning improvements. All of the community sites can be accessed on the Evening Times Web site.
