Google Earth has added a new layer to its software, in which a person using Google Earth can also view New York Times news linked with the region they are viewing, CNET News reported Monday.
“Placemarks” will pop up on maps showing where news is happening, and by showing the New York Times layer in the software, a window will make a month's worth of headlines viewable, according to Google's LatLong blog.
According to Kate Hurowitz, a Google spokeswoman, the company welcomes partnerships with other media outlets. Extending a similar feature to Google Maps “would be a logical progression,” she said, although Google has not made any announcements, according to CNET News.
