Chilean newspaper publisher La Tercera will use mobile content and services delivery platform Viigo Inc. to distribute content to its readers, Business Wire reported Wednesday.
The free, branded version of Viigo will be offered for readers to download, aiming to make La Tercera news and information more easily accessible via smartphone.
Making content more easily accessible via mobile “provides a unique opportunity for media companies to create new revenue streams, while providing value to subscribers in ways not possible before,” Mark Ruddock, CEO of Viigo, said in a statement, according to Business Wire.
To encourage readers to download La Tercera's co-branded version of Viigo, La Tercera will run a major media campaign across its media channels.
The service allows readers to access information via their mobiles, “in a form that they can easily navigate and read on their smartphones,” Manuela Chicharro Vargas, product manager for mobility at La Tercera, said in a statement, according to Business Wire. Extending La Tercera content to mobile is also an “important new way to extend our brand,” she added.
Canadian newspaper the National Post launched its mobile platform last year with Viigo, which “allows the National Post to quickly and seamlessly mobilize its breaking news content with literally no capital or technical investment,” Jonathan Harris, vice president of digital media at the Post, said in a statement.
