Online and TV grow strongly in Spain, newspapers stagnate

Advertising expenditure in Spain is expected to grow from €5.4 billion in 2002 to more than €8.3 billion in 2009, according to Duplo, Nielsen, Infoadex and ZenithOptimedia data, incorporated in World Press Trends 2007.

TV will top other media with the most ad spending throughout the years – from about €2 billion in 2002 to nearly €4 billion in 2009. Its shares will boost to nearly 50 percent by 2009, the firms predict.

Newspapers are expected to be in second place in terms of ad spending, growing from about €1.5 billion in 2002 to more than €2.1 billion in 2010, the data forecasts. However, their growth will be much slower than TV or other new media, such as the Internet.

Online ad expenditure in Spain is expected to jump from €15 million in 1999 to €617 million by the end of 2008, and is expected to reach about €1.3 billion in 2010, according to World Press Trends 2007, published by the World Association of Newspapers.
