Facebook launches Chinese version

Social networking site Facebook has launched a version tailored for online users in China, a move that puts it in direct competition with local and international competitors in the world's biggest online market, Reuters reported.

When accessing the site, Facebook users in mainland China are redirected to zh-cn.facebook.com, a version in simplified Chinese.

A version in traditional Chinese is also available for users in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Facebook has already released French, German and Spanish versions this year. According to Reuters, about two-thirds of its more than 67 million users are from outside the United States.

Its strongest rival, News Corp.'s MySpace, launched a Chinese-version site in April 2007, and is available in more than 20 countries.

The boom of Facebook has resulted in Chinese copycats, such as Xiaonei.com and Zhanzuo.com, Reuters reported Friday.
