The Daily Telegram in Superior, Wis. announced Thursday it will begin publishing mostly online starting in the autumn, the Associated Press reported.
The afternoon paper currently prints six issues a week, and will switch to printing just two issues a week.
Currently, The Daily Telegram has a circulation of about 6,000, and it is not yet decided which on days the newspaper will be printed in the autumn, Rob Brochu, executive editor, told the AP. The newspaper's 10 newsroom staffers were told of the change Thursday morning.
The Web site will become the main place to access news from the newspaper, and once the switch is made, the editorial staff will focus on posting news on the site faster, said Brochu.
“It's a big change but on the other hand I don't think those of us in the industry have any choice but to go with the flow and as readers shift to the Internet, we've got to put more emphasis there ourself,” he told the AP, in an article posted by BusinessWeek.
