Asian titles overtake global top 100 paid-for dailies

Asian titles overtake global top 100 paid-for dailies

Asian titles made up the majority of the top 100 paid-for dailies list, with more than 60 percent of the titles on the list being published in an Asian language, according to World Press Trends 2006.

Chinese and Japanese dailies topped the list - almost half of global top 100 paid-for dailies were published in one of those languages.

Chinese-language titles made up one-fourth of top 100 paid-for dailies, while Japanese-language dailies accounted for 22.

English followed in the third spot, accounting for 17 titles.

In addition, six dailies were published in Hindi, four in Russian, and three each for Korean and Thai.

Other languages appearing two times on the list included Dutch, German, Gujarati, Italian, and Malayalam, according to World Press Trends 2006, published by the World Association of Newspapers.
