Demand for traditional media still high in Europe, Russia and U.S.

Europe continues to have a growing demand for traditional news sources like print newspapers and television, in spite of the growing popularity of online outlets, Gipp.ru reported.

A survey published by Synovate shows the trend is similar in both Russia and the United States, with online search engines remaining more popular than news sites.

According to the survey, 17.6 percent of respondents prefer to watch the Euronews TV channel, as opposed to the 2.8 percent who watch Euronews.com content, according to Gipp.ru.

Other findings of the survey include: 16.7 percent of respondents prefer CNN International, while the number is 12.8 percent prefer BBC World. On the other hand, MTV (26.9 percent), National Geographic (17.8 percent) and Discovery (21.5 percent) had more stable demand for their services.

Seventy-seven percent of respondents (60 percent in Russia) use Google's search engine, while only 23 percent prefer to use Yahoo!.

At the same time, sites like Wikipedia.org and Youtube.com, which do not have print counterparts, are gaining popularity, the survey showed.
