Thai multimedia company Jasmine International Plc is expanding its broadband activity by going into Internet protocol television (IPTV) in October, the Bangkok Post reported.
In addition, Jasmine International will also offer online games and voice-over Internet protocol (IP) to add more channels.
Jasmine International CEO Pete Bodharamik said the IPTV service has “high potential to become a mass market, given its strong network nationwide and no redundancies in the services provided by the group's companies,” according to the Bangkok Post article, posted by AsiaMedia.
The IPTV features will be run by Triple T Broadband Co., its subsidiary, offering high-definition set-top boxes with 30 free channels, video streaming, Video On Demand (VOD), interactive functions and Web browsing.
The company hopes to succeed at making broadband its main business focal point within two years by teaming up with its associated firm TT&T Plc. The expected revenue growth in 2009 is 30 to 40 percent, according to the Bangkok Post.
According to Bodharamik, the firm is trying to increase its broadband capacity from 50,000 ports to 700,000 ports. In addition, it is also trying to boost the number of Wi-Fi hotspots to 10,000 venues by the end of 2008.
The company currently has no financial difficulties with investing in new projects, since its 4.3 billion baht (US$127 million) profit outweighed its debt by 1.3 billion baht ($39 million). The expected revenue by the end of the year is six billion baht ($178 million).
Currently, Jasmine International has about 300,000 broadband subscribers. The firm intends to increase the figure to 500,000 by the end of 2008 and to one million within two years.
