SPH launches Web TV for youth

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has launched a new Web TV site to pull in a younger audience, as newspaper circulation growth falls flat, AFP MediaWatch reported.

The Straits Times Razor TV focuses on local topics, such as crime and transportation, as well as entertainment and lifestyle news, and does so in an informal, “chatty style.”

Following the Aug. 8 launch, videos on topics such as robbers attacking the elderly, shopping and beach volleyball have received the most hits, but SPH hopes videos on current affairs will rise n popularity, according to AFP MediaWatch.

SPH hopes new ventures like Razor TV will create new revenue streams as the country's newspaper industry, on which SPH has a near-monopoly, becomes almost completely saturated, AFP MediaWatch reported.
