Most 3G mobile phone users came from the Asia Pacific region and Western Europe, followed by North America in June 2006, according to research firm IDATE, World Digital Media Trends 2008 reported.
Also during that period, half of the global 3G customers came from the Asia Pacific region. Western Europe, in the second spot, contributed 36 percent, while North America brought in another 11 percent.
Other regions, however, only made up a niche share, according to IDATE. Eastern Europe contributed only 2 percent, while Africa and the Middle East accounted for merely 1 percent, according to the WDMT report, published by the World Association of Newspapers.
