Free daily to launch in Colombia

Colombian Media group Casa Ed. El Tiempo (CEET) will launch a new free daily on September 15, Newspaper Innovation reported.

It will be available in four major markets, including Bogotá, Medellín, Barranquilla and Cali.

The new paper, title unknown, will have a combined circulation of 300,000, which makes it the highest-circulated title in Colombia. Paid title El Tiempo is the paper with the highest circulation currently, with 240,000 daily copies.

Total circulation in the country is 1.6 million, according to Newspaper Innovation.

The new title will be the second free daily in the country, after Diario Occidente (Cali) was converted to a free title in 2006.

With the new product along with other papers, including El Tiempo, Hoy, Portafolio and regional publications, CEET will gain shares in the Colombian market, Newspaper Innovation reported.
