Armenian radio and television broadcasts may undergo a technological development as they shift from analog to digital, reported Lenta.ru Wednesday.
Nerses Yeritsyan, Armenian Minister of Trade and Economic Development, announced that the change to digital is required by the Association for Internation Broadcasting (AIB).
In addition, the country's television and radio laws would be adapted to the change, according to Lenta.ru.
The AIB gave Armenia until 2015 to complete the shift, even though most European countries are scheduled to move to digital by 2012.
The Minister said that Armenia must follow global trends, otherwise it risks being deprived of the frequencies that are already present on its territory, which could be a threat to national “information security.”
The digital shift may cost the country as much as US$100 million, wrote Lenta.ru.
