Google buys Korean blog developer

Search giant Google has bought South Korean blogging developer Tatter and Company, Lenta.ru reported Monday. The firm's main product is blogging service TextCube.

Tatter might expand TextCube outside of Korea, as Google's sister site, according to Lenta.ru. Google, meanwhile, is expected to increase its share in the Korean online market, which is the ninth largest in the world.

More than 70 percent of the country's population is online, according to Tech Radar.

“Acquiring Tatter and Company will allow us to enhance our online publishing tools in Korea, benefiting a large number of users who already depend on and enjoy Google and Tatter and Company's products,” according to a Google spokesperson, Tech Radar reported.

Nearly five years ago, Google acquired Blogger, another blog hosting site. It uses Blogger's sites as a platform to distribute contextual advertising. Last year, Blogger was voted as one the 50 most visited sites around the globe, according to Lenta.ru.
