Chinese newspapers double newsstand prices

Many newspapers in major cities in China have announced plans to double their newsstand price this month, FollowtheMedia reported.

According to Li Zhaoxiang of the Beijing Youth Daily, “skyrocketing newsprint costs are the major reason for the price jump.” BYD is one of the five newspapers in the city that will raise its newsstand price.

The cost of newsprint in China has risen by 26 percent this year, making it the major cost in putting out a newspaper. It makes up 60 percent to 70 percent of a newspaper's total expenditure, FollowtheMedia reported.
