Canadian media group Sun Media has launched online e-versions of 32 newspapers over the past weekend, Media in Canada reported.
Users are able to view “exact-copy” images of papers, download issues for offline reading, listen to content on computers or mobile phones, comment on or share articles, publish stories on social networks, look at photo galleries and receive alerts for specific material.
"This will be a great service for readers when they are travelling, spending time at a cottage or otherwise unable to get the print edition," said Sun Media Corporate Vice-President of Reader Sales and Service Steve Angelevski, according to Media in Canada."For advertisers, the interactive e-edition allows readers to connect with them through website links, e-mail addresses and phone numbers, as they browse the e-edition."
Subscribers to the service may receive the entire e-paper on their computers, inclusive of complete stories, photos and ads, or a version that is adapted to a mobile device such as Apple's iPhone or a BlackBerry. Sun dailies and other titles will offer e-versions for free during a two-week trial period, and then it will be available for a fee to subscribers. 24 Hours dailies will remain free of charge, according to Media in Canada.
