British mobile instant messaging (IM) is expected to continue growing its growth, which began in 2006, into 2012 in terms of the number of users and percentage of active users, according to IT services and business consultancy firm Capgemini, SFN's World Digital Media Trends 2008 reported.
Mobile IM users only totalled two million in 2006, but grow strongly throughout 2012. The number is predicted to reach 12 million in 2010, and is expected to achieve 32 million in 2012.
In terms of the percentage of active users, according to Capgemini, it only accounted for 0.8 percent in 2006, but is expected to reach 2.6 percent this year. Its growth is expected to accelerate, with the percentage exceeding 16 percent in 2012, according to the World Digital Media Trends 2008 report, released by SFN and the World Association of Newspapers.
