Vodafone UK launches e-book service

Mobile network operator Vodafone UK is parnering with with GoSpoken.com to provide books on mobile phones through a new feature called Books on Mobile, TradingMarkets.com reported Monday.

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) will allow a three-hour-long audio book to be downloaded onto a phone in about three minutes.

GoSpoken.com teamed up with UK publishers like Penguin, Random House and HarperCollins and is currently aiming to expand into the European market, according to TradingMarkets. The site was launched by author Andy McNab and Tony Lynch, currently serving as managing director. The author started by recording 15-minute-long short stories and uploading them on iTunes, reports TradingMarkets. After a level of success, the two set up the service for mobile phones.

Vodafone Books may cost between £5-15 and expenses will be added to phone users' Vodafone bills each month, TradingMarkets reported.
