Mozilla CEO John Lilly announced that his company would soon be testing the alpha version of a browser created for mobile devices, Trusted Reviews reported Tuesday. The move may increase competition for other browsers like Safari and Opera.
“We want to make sure that the Web on mobile is more like the Web than what the mobile industry offers today, which is closed, separate networks and not a very good information-getting experience for the user,” Lilly said.
According to Trusted Reviews, a significant portion of Mozilla's profits comes from Google's search engine. The CEO mentioned that he does not think that launching Mozilla Mobile can be seen as competing with Google's Chrome browser, even though the two firms share certain components.
