Newsvine registrations up 963% in 1 year

News aggregation and community Web site Newsvine has seen registration skyrocket by 963 percent in the past year, Beet.TV reported Wednesday. In the same period, unique users have gone up by 269 percent.

Newsvine was bought by MSNBC almost a year ago.

Although the site is not highly featured on MSNBC.com, “it's not clear how much of that traffic is due to organic growth, and how much is due to promotion on MSNBC,” stated Media Guardian's Jemima Kiss.

The social news platform is based in Seattle, and aggregates content from everyone from large media outlets to individuals, and also asks members to vote on what they believe is most important. Where a story is placed on the site is then based on votes form users and “freshness and reputation,” according to Beet.TV.
