Regional media hub launches in Abu Dhabi

The United Arab Emirates is planning to launch a new regional multi-media centre in Abu Dhabi early next year that will aim to instruct, develop and encourage local talent in fields like broadcasting, film production, publishing and journalism, Reuters reported Sunday.

The media hub, named TwoFour54, has already enlisted help from outlets like The Financial Times, BBC, CNN, Thomson Reuters Foundation, Harper Collins, Rotana Studios, Random House and C Sky Pictures.

“This is an unprecedented step that will see home-grown content available to the rest of the world,” said Abu Dhabi Media Zone Chairman Khaldoun al-Mubarak, according to Reuters. “It is a major milestone in Abu Dhabi's development and an important step in the ongoing diversification of the Emirates.”

According to TwoFour54 CEO Tony Ortsen, the project will promote and sponsor content production by “Arabs from the Arab world” within sectors like film, TV, music, animation, digital media and art.

The state-funded centre will feature studios, production and training services as well as financial support for emerging media companies, according to Reuters. The goal of the initiative is to construct the proper infrastructure to draw Arab talent from the West. It also hopes to train Arab media graduates and boost the skills of existing professionals in the field.
