Mobile subscribers worldwide are expected to keep growing from 2004 to 2013, according to Pyramid Research, SFN's latest report, Technologies Publishers Should Know reported.
In 2004, global mobile subscribers totalled only less than two billion. The numbers keep growing and are expected to reach four billion this year. In 2013, total mobile subscribers will increase to nearly six billion.
Asia Pacific is the key contributor throughout the years. In 2004, subscribers from this region made up almost half, or nearly one billion. In 2013, there will be still about half of subscribers coming from this region, according to a forecast from Pyramid Research.
Africa, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, and Latin America are the areas with stronger growth. In North America and Western Europe, however, growth of mobile subscribers is expected to be quite flat throughout 2013, according to the Technologies Publishers Should Know report, released by SFN and the World Association of Newspapers.
