Top news channel CNN intends to significantly minimise the amount of material that it obtains from other news sources and plans to increase original reporting, Lenta.ru reported Monday.

According to Executive Vice President and Managing Director of CNN International Tony Madox, the gradual move towards more original reporting would allow the channel to expand its mobile and online services. He pointed out that the number of users who use these services has surged by 21 percent since last year, reaching 37 million people.

CNN has already started to boost its network of correspondents by hiring 50 new reporters, 12 of which will be stationed in various places across the globe.

The use of content from other sources may be highly monitored, especially in relation to mobile platforms and Web sites, since material may only be allowed to be kept for a limited time period in order to protect authors' rights, according to Lenta.ru.
