Cumbrian News Group launches new hyperlocal sites

The UK-based Cumbrian News Group will continue to launch more hyperlocal community Web sites over the next few weeks, following its launch of 13 others, HoldtheFrontPage.co.uk reported Monday.

The regional publishers' sites offer users a chance to create their own pages and add content, and feature Cumberland news content. Local businesses are also advertising on the sites.

Maryportlocal, launched in July, was the first site to go online, and became so popular that local police and medical professionals contacted Cumbrian for permission to create their own pages, HoldtheFrontPage.co.uk reported.

“In common with other newspaper publishers we are looking at our offerings to local communities and the way we have approached it is with a collection of standalone community sites,” said Nick Turner, head of digital content for Cumbrian, according to HoldtheFrontPage.co.uk.
