The India-based Tribune has launched its sixth new edition in five years with the unveiling of its Dehradun edition Monday, Exchange4Media.com reported Tuesday.
The Dehradun edition is printed in Chandigarh. Previously, new editions appeared in Jalandhar, Bhatinda, Jammu, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
“...with this edition, our news network will become larger and enable us to carry news from Dehradun and Uttrakhand to other parts of the country,” HK Dua, Tribune's editor-in-chief, told Exchange4Media.
Dua explained that the launch of the Dehradun edition is part of a strategy to push the paper beyond its traditional strongholds in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Jammu, and Kashmir.
“This region is predominantly a Hindi newspaper market,” said Sanjay Hazari, general manager of The Tribune, according to Exchang4Media. “However, there is already a market for 30,000-35,000 English newspaper copies, and by focusing on Dehradun and surrounding areas of Haridwar, Rishikesh and Roorkee, we will strive to capture a substantial share of the English newspaper market. Also, with three leading English newspapers present here, the English newspaper market will grow further.”
