SFR to launch portable micro-computer

French mobile network operator SFR will launch three new mobile devices in time for Christmas, including the EeePc 901 3G+, which is a newer vision of a mobile micro-computer with integrated 3G features, Le Figaro reported Thursday.

“While the classic computer is used by all the members of a household, the ultra-portable is the small computer that belongs only to individuals. It will become as personal as a mobile phone,” said Jean-Mark Tassetto, general director of marketing at SFR.

The initiative is a continuation of SFR's ventures with computer manufacturer Asus. The device will cost €279 by itself and will be offered as part of a monthly subscription of €34.90 for non-SFR users and €29.90 for SFR users, Le Figaro reported.

The operator also plans to introduce the first MID (Mobile Internet Devices) into the French market. It will be teaming up with Intel to sell the SFR M! PC Pocket 3G+, which will have a white sliding keyboard and will be allow users to have unlimited online browsing and mail options. The device will cost €249 and will have a direct link to the SFR Application Store for users to upload various tools, according to Le Figaro.

SFR will also have a deal with Archos to launch the Archos 3G+ de SFR, also priced at €249, that will have an entirely black appearance, a touch screen and will offer users the ability to surf the Web, send e-mails and to watch television, Le Figaro reported.
